Margie van Zyl Chapman is a founding member of the Board of Directors of CommonAge.
She holds a BSocSc (Hons) cum laude from the University of Natal and an MA (Social Science) from UNISA. A social worker by profession, Margie has a particular interest in long-term care, leadership training and partnership development. She is passionate about networking, helping organisations share their stories, and partnership development for the greater good.
Before joining GERATEC as Director of Strategic Partnerships in March 2011, Margie was the CEO of Padca (Pietermaritzburg and District Council for the Care of the Aged) in Pietermaritzburg, where she led the organisation for 15 years. Recently retired from GERATEC, Margie now runs her own consultancy Take the Lead – Living Well. Ageing Well.
In other areas, Margie served on the executive of SAAHA (South African Association of Homes for the Aged) for ten years and as national president for four years. She was involved in several national working groups contributing to the development of policies and legislation in South Africa.
Margie was on the Global Ageing Network’s Board of Directors for 8 years, which includes a two year term as Chair.
She is also the Founding Chairperson of the South African Care Forum.
