CommonAge scholarship recipient Francis Njuakom Nchii, Founder and Chief Executive of CDVTA

The founder and Chief Executive of Cameroon’s leading organisation in care of older people, CDVTA (Community Development volunteers for Technical Assistance),  has accepted the offer of our scholarship to attend the IAHSA/ACSA conference, 30 August – 3 September.

Francis Njuakom Nchii is also the coordinator of Nouvelle Planete projects in Cameroon and a member of care of older people’s network of NGOs in West Africa. He has presented papers on issues affecting older people in many conferences in and out of Africa and he is also a full member of the International Federation on Ageing (IFA) based in Toronto, Canada.

Njuakom’s unique style and approach on older people’s rights advocacy has been significantly shaped by his 20 years of experience in this area. In July 2008, he was awarded the International campaigner Award by Prime Minister Gordon Brown at Downing Street, London.  As a result of Njuakom’s long term agecare experience in rights based social mobilisation of older people, a national policy on ageing has been validated in Cameroon.

Just recently Njuakom recently defended a research project on the rights of older people in Cameroon.

Njuakom holds a degree in social work, a higher national diploma in community development and certificates in social gerontology, advocacy and leadership.
